Covid Scotland: Nicola Sturgeon to make announcement as infections rise

Nicola Sturgeon is set to make an announcement regarding the rising Covid infections today, The Scottish Government has confirmed.

The briefing will start 12.15, with the First Minister joined by National Clinical Director Jason Leitch.

Taking to Twitter, Sturgeon announced the televised update saying: “There will be a covid briefing at 12.15pm today, giving an update on today’s figured and overall trends, and a reminder of the key steps we all need to take - to get vaccinated, test regularly and follow the public health precautions.

"Tune in if you can.”

This comes after Sturgeon suggested that Scotland will likely remain in the current levels for a few more weeks longer, to let the vaccine "catch-up". Scotland was originally expected to move down to Level zero on June 28, however earlier this week, Sturgeon said this would be "unlikely".

She will confirm this decision on Tuesday.
