Covid Scotland: Nicola Sturgeon to give urgent update today as cases hit new peak

Nicola Sturgeon is set to give an urgent update on the coronavirus pandemic in Scotland on Wednesday (September 1).

The First Minister will speak on the latest figures and other pressing issues at the Scottish Parliament in front of MSPs, where she will then answer questions from the chamber.

The update will be the first since the summer break, when an announcement was made regarding lifting level zero restrictions, however a selection of smaller Covid briefings have been held over the last month.

No major changes have been made since the easing of restrictions on August 9, however Scotland has seen a huge spike in coronavirus cases in recent weeks.

In the last seven days the record for the highest number of cases has been beaten three times, with 7,113 reported on Sunday (August 29).

You can find all of the information on how to watch the briefing below.

What time will Nicola Sturgeon speak today?

The First Minister is expected to speak in the Scottish Parliament soon after 2.45pm, depending on whether or not the schedule is running behind.

She will be speaking in the chamber and will give a short statement and update before opening the floor to questions from MSPs.

How can I watch Nicola Sturgeon's statement?

The update will be broadcast to the public on the Scottish Parliament TV, which can be viewed here for free.

In addition, the statement can also be watched on the Scottish Parliament's Facebook page.

Edinburgh Live will also be bringing you all of the latest updates on twitter and Facebook.
