Covid Scotland: Nicola Sturgeon 'not ruling out' double jab waiver for amber list travellers

Double jabbed Scots hoping to travel to amber list countries will have to wait a bit longer to find out if quarantine will be waived on their return.

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon failed to give a definitive answer to the question of whether or not the Scottish Government will adopt the new rule announced by UK Transport Minister Grant Shapps this morning.

He revealed that from July 19 fully vaccinated adults and all under 18s will no longer have to self isolate on their return.

Advice not to travel to amber list countries will be dropped for people in England, and they will be able to travel to them for leisure and to see family - if they're allowed in.

North of the border it's up to the Scottish Government to change quarantine policy.

Speaking at a lunchtime briefing today, Ms Sturgeon said she'll explain further when she addresses the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday.

She said: "We are considering that carefully, and will come to a decision on that fairly soon in terms of whether or not that will apply to people returning to Scotland."

Meanwhile she confirmed a final decision will be made on Scotland's move to level 0 ahead of her parliamentary statement on Tuesday.

But she cautioned: "My job is not to take the easy decisions in a quest for popularity, it is to do what I think is most likely to keep the country safe as possible. As we get to the end of the vaccination programme.

"This is a race between the virus and the vaccines, and over the next few weeks as the complete the vaccination programme, it is really important that we don't let the virus out run us."
