Covid Scotland: Nicola Sturgeon lockdown announcement today – and when and where to watch it

Nicola Sturgeon is set to make a covid statement to MSPs this afternoon as Scotland faces delays to its road map out of lockdown.

The First Minister is expected to address the rise in cases due to the surge of the highly infectious Delta variant, which could see lockdown easing pushed back by several weeks.

The Scottish Government had previously indicated its aims to move all of Scotland to Level 0 - the lowest level of restrictions under the framework - by June 28.

However, with earlier plans to move Scotland out of lockdown put on hold, the decision could be delayed in a move similar to England's.

Boris Johnson last night confirmed England will not end its social distancing restrictions on June 21 due to a rise in coronavirus cases caused by the more infectious Delta variant.

Much of the country, including Glasgow, remains at Level Two.

It comes after Scotland has been warned by experts and politicians that the country is at the beginning of a third wave.

761 new coronavirus cases were reported yesterday, the latest Scottish Government figures show, with 128 people in hospital on Sunday with recently confirmed covid.

So far, 3,517,668 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccination and 2,446,834 have received their second dose.

What time will the announcement be made at?

Nicola Sturgeon will be addressing the Scottish Parliament to give a covid update around 2.15pm today.

Where can I watch it?

The briefing will be broadcast live on the Scottish Parliament TV channel here or you can watch on BBC Scotland.
