Covid Scotland: NHS Lothian sees sharp decline of nearly 600 cases overnight

A total of 1,747 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Scotland on Friday (June 25).

The latest data has shown a sharp decline in cases not just across the country. but specifically in the NHS Lothian region, where numbers have more than halved.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Edinburgh and the Lothians reported around 825 cases each day. However on Friday, only 284 new transmissions were confirmed.

The Scottish Government have not announced any delays in data from the health board to account for the new daily figure, meaning the area has seen a decline of around 600 cases overnight.

In the last seven days, the capital has seen its highest daily case numbers on record, with 3,385 positive cases recorded in just seven days.

It comes as 483 new cases were confirmed in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and 212 in Tayside.

Out of the 26,794 tests carried out in Scotland on Thursday 6.9 per cent of these. were positive.

It comes as 188 people are now in hospital with Covid-19, 11 more than the previous day.

16 people are also in intensive care, a decrease of one since Thursday.

Sadly, two further deaths were also registered.

Vaccination figures have also increased, with 3,709,801 people having received the first dose and 2,647,397 having received their second dose.
