Covid Scotland: New level 2 rule change on face coverings to be introduced next week

A new lockdown rule change will be implemented in Scotland from next week, it has been confirmed.

Currently, the majority of the country is under level two restrictions, which have allowed for a greater feeling of normality to resume.

However, from May 31 (Monday), a further easing of certain restrictions surrounding face coverings will be eased, the Scottish Government have confirmed.

From next week, beauty practitioners in Scotland will be permitted to remove face coverings for the purposes of treatments.

This move has followed an urgent review by the Scottish Government after lobbying by the NHBF, BABTAC, British Beauty Council and UK Spa Association.

Under initial restrictions, treatments such as nails, hair styling and eyebrow hair removal could go ahead, but a mask was required to be worn at all times.

Now, the new rules will allow for full face treatments to go ahead, providing the practitioner is wearing the required protective equipment.

Level two restrictions were introduced in Scotland from May 17, and have allowed for alcohol to be served inside, later opening hours and indoor gatherings in people's homes.

Social distancing rules have also been eased to allow for the two metre rule to be scrapped when in a private home or garden, provided the requirements surrounding numbers are followed.
