Covid Scotland: More than 18 young people an hour are being diagnosed with virus

Studies have shown that a worrying number of young people are testing positive for COVID every day in Scotland.

In the past week alone, 2,846 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported among those aged between 0 and 25, according to stats.

Statistician TravellingTabby has been reporting on the COVID pandemic since its outbreak in March 2020, and has become a reliable source for more in-depth statistics on how the virus is affecting Scotland.

This age demographic is also the group with the least amount vaccinated, as Nicola Sturgeon announced the Government's plans to begin vaccinating 12-17 year olds in the near future.

Statistics also show that 447 cases have been recorded among the young people of Scotland, which equates to just under 19 cases per hour.

5% of tests today have been positive, with 4% of the tests over the previous week coming back as positive.

In total, 45.2% of the entire Scottish population have been fully vaccinated against the virus, with over three and a half million of those vaccinations being the AtraZeneca type. Just over two million are the Pfizer vaccination, and only 62,000 being the Moderna jag.

Two people have sadly died due to the virus, with 9 more people admitted to hospital with COVID.

The two cities with the most cases in Scotland are densely populated Glasgow and Edinburgh, with both of them over the threshold for Level Three restrictions.
