Covid Scotland: Midlothian school pupils self-isolate after cases confirmed in local primary

A number of children at a Midlothian primary school are now self-isolating after a coronavirus outbreak.

Parents at Strathesk Primary School in Penicuik were contacted on Friday (May 28) after positive cases "within the school community" were confirmed.

A letter to parents stated that the track and trace process is complete for the moment, with those contacted to stay at home for 10 days.

However, any child who has not been traced has been advised to attend school as normal, unless they develop any symptoms of the virus.

Enhanced cleaning and hygiene measures are also in place at the school.

A letter from the school in partnership with NHS Lothian stated:

"Over the past week there has been a small number of confirmed cases of cover-19 within the Strathesk school community.

"Children who have been in direct contact with the confirmed cases have been contacted and will be staying at home for 10 days.

"The school remains open and if your child has not been contacted they should continue to attend school if they remain well."

Strathesk is one of a number of schools across the Lothians that have experiences cases of Covid-19 in recent weeks, but is remaining open.

Other premises such as Davidsons Mains primary in Edinburgh have been forced to close entirely, with a large outbreak in the school causing the area to be one of the main coronavirus hotspots in Scotland.

It comes as 583 new cases of the virus were reported in Scotland on Saturday, with 98 of those recorded in the Lothians.
