Covid Scotland: Map unveils eight new test centre locations in Edinburgh

A map has unveiled the locations of eight new test centres set to open in Edinburgh amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Sharing the map with constituents, Councillor Scott Arthur revealed that one of the new sites will be in his ward, at either Oxgangs Library or Pentland Community Centre.

The new testing centres are set to make testing more widely accessible, with only three Covid testing centres currently operating in council-owned buildings. This includes Gate 55, Usher Hall and Leith Library.

The new sites' purpose is to maximise the number of people with symptoms getting tested, with a focus on areas of higher deprivation and low car ownership.

Edinburgh Council was requested, by the Scottish Government on behalf of the UK Government, to identify a further eight Local Testing Sites (LTS).

A new map has unveiled the locations of both existing centres and where the new local sites are required.

The council has put forward a list of potential options to the government, which include:

  • Granton - Outdoor LTS within the car park for Ainslie Park Leisure CentreSite at Waterfront Avenue
  • Niddrie/Craigmillar - Outdoor LTS within the car park for Jack Kane Leisure Centre

  • Restalrig - Piershill Library
