Covid Scotland: 'Hundreds of staff' from West Lothian Tesco distribution centre self-isolating

Hundreds of staff members who work at the Tesco distribution centre in Livingston are understood to be self-isolating.

The huge distribution centre is situated on Carnegie Road in the Deans area of Livingston and is the size of 712 tennis courts.

The Daily Record reports how workers have been asked to self-isolate by track and trace because of community transmission rather than an outbreak directly linked to the centre.

One Scot claimed that 350 staff members were off due to Covid, but it is thought that the actual number is considerably lower and closer to 200.

Tesco confirmed to the paper that a number of their workers are self-isolating but that they did not comment on specific figures.

A spokesperson said: "A number of colleagues at our Livingston Distribution Centre have been asked to isolate by Test and Protect.

"The safety of our colleagues, customers and suppliers remains our number one priority and we are working with local public health authorities, following all Scottish Government guidance and taking the relevant precautions.

"We have extensive measures across all of our facilities to help keep everyone safe.”

The news comes as 3,216 new cases of the virus were confirmed in Scotland over the past 24 hours.

6, 712 new cases were registered in West Lothian area over the last seven day period.
