Covid Scotland: hospital numbers fall as five new deaths and 827 new cases reported

Eight hundred and twenty seven new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Scotland in the past 24 hours.

The Scottish Government has just published the latest figures showing 5.5 per cent of those tested were positive for the virus.

Five further deaths following a test were also recorded overnight, bringing the sad total over the past week to 323 and 6,950 since the start of the pandemic.

The number of people in hospital with the virus across Scotland dropped by 22 to 1,132, 99 of whom are in intensive case.

The number of first vaccinations given to Scots in now stands at 1,431,942 with a further 35,479 second doses also administered.

The news comes as primary one, two and three and nursery youngsters prepare to return to school full-time tomorrow.

The Scottish Government is also working behind the scenes preparing the country's roadmap out of lockdown, with Nicola Sturgeon expected to outline the plan at Holyrood on Tuesday.
