Covid Scotland: Greater Glasgow and Clyde has second highest infection rate in Europe

The Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board area has the second highest covid rate in Europe, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Lanarkshire has been named the hotspot with the highest infection rate per 100,000 at 853, according to the latest figures published yesterday.

Greater Glasgow and Clyde's rate is currently 853 per 100,000.

With the virus continuing to grow in Scotland, Glasgow's confirmed covid cases has risen dramatically by 11,611 in seven days.

Meanwhile, record levels of the virus were recorded by the Scottish Government last week, with a new daily high of 7,113 cases set on Sunday.

Now, the WHO has released data confirming the European hotspots with the highest coronavirus rates and providing the rate per 100,000.

As well as Lanarkshire and Glasgow taking the top two spots, Lothian has been placed as the area with the 10th highest rate, followed by Dumfries and Galloway.
