Covid Scotland: Four new deaths reported as cases rise by 2,317 in past 24 hours

Four new deaths of people with a confirmed case of coronavirus have been recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing Scotland's death toll to 7,800.

The number of cases also increased by 2,317, with 8.6% of all tests returning positive. Of these, 533 were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde while 321 were in Lanarkshire.

517 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed Covid-19 while 49 people were in intensive care.

Meanwhile, 3,970,026 people have received their first dose of the vaccine, with 2,954,776 having now received their second jab.

It was earlier confirmed the SSE Hydro will provide its final day of coronavirus vaccinations on Sunday.

By this time, all Greater Glasgow and Clyde residents over the age of 18 will have received their first dose of the vaccine if they attended their scheduled appointment.

The venue was scheduled to be handed back this summer in order for it to be prepared for the upcoming COP26 Climate Change Conference hosted by the UN later this year.

This coincides with NHSGGC moving fully on to the next stage of the vaccination programme, which focuses on mobile facilities and drop-ins at community settings, alongside planned second dose appointments.

This continues the extensive work already underway to support local communities who face barriers and supports the need for greater flexibility to enable more people to receive their vaccination at a time and location of their choice.
