Covid Scotland figures: Hospital and intensive care numbers drop

A total of 581 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed across Scotland.

The Scottish Government published the latest figures this afternoon, with test positivity sitting at the 3.3 per cent mark. This means that 3.3 per cent of all tests carried out were positive. This remains below the World Health Organisation target of 5 per cent.

Of the new cases, 105 were in the Lothians, with 161 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

There are currently 924 people in Scottish hospitals having tested positive for the virus, and this represents a decrease of 43 on Thursday's figure. There are 80 people in intensive care units – a decline of nine.

27 additional deaths have been recorded of patients who tested positive for coronavirus.

So far as the vaccination programme goes, Health Secretary Jeane Freeman confirmed that 1,542,929 people have now received their first dose, with 8,679 having received their second dose.
