Covid Scotland figures as 343 new cases confirmed with lockdown to ease tomorrow

There have been 343 new cases of Covid-19 reported across Scotland, with no further deaths announced.

Of the 14,164 new tests for the Coronavirus that reported results – 2.7% of these were positive. 2,553,837 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 451,057 have received their second dose.

The news comes as the nation looks ahead to a number of lockdown restrictions being eased tomorrow after the stay-at-home law was lifted on Friday and replaced with advice to stay local,. Scots should still not leave their local authority area unless it's for an essential reason.

Hairdressers are among the businesses allowed to re-open tomorrow as lockdown measures are to be eased slightly.

The businesses that will be allowed to reopen from Easter Monday include:

  • Garden centres (indoor and outdoor)
  • Key cutting shops
  • Mobility equipment shops
  • Baby equipment shops
  • Electrical repair shops
  • Hairdressers and barbers (with shopfronts - not mobile services), by appointment only
  • Homeware shops
  • Vehicle showrooms (appointment only) and forecourts

Scots will only be able to visit businesses in their local authority area as travel restrictions will remain in force from April 5.

It is hoped by the Scottish Government that if cases continue to drop, the ban on travelling between local authorities will be able to be lifted from April 26.
