Covid Scotland: Family reunited after 'error' forced them into Edinburgh quarantine hotel

A family, who had been kept apart for over a year in the wake of the pandemic, have finally been reunited after an "error" forced them to quarantine in an Edinburgh hotel.

Chun Wong and his daughter Kiernan got the hugs they were desperate for with wife Danielle on Tuesday after immigration delays kept them apart for 16 months, reports the BBC.

The father and daughter were among the first people to arrive at Edinburgh Airport on Monday when the new quarantine rules came into force and were taken to Doubletree Hilton for supervised self-isolation.

However, after just one day in the hotel, they were released due to an "error".

The father and daughter had flown from America, before boarding a connecting flight from Dublin to Edinburgh, which meant they were actually exempt from having to remain in a hotel for ten days.

This is due to a loophole in the system, in which those arriving from Dublin do not have to pay to enter a hotel because Ireland is being considered "exempt" from the new rules.

The family was originally set to pay around £2,500 for the hotel stay, as well about £10,000 in immigration fees.

Photos have now emerged of the family being reunited after many months apart as they joined mum Danielle, who is a dual UK/US citizen and has been in Fife since November 2019, caring for people with addictions as a frontline worker.
