The number of people who have died with a positive coronavirus test has risen by eight in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll in Scotland under this measurement to 7,552.

The latest statistics released by the Scottish Government also confirm the number of cases has risen by 488, bringing the total number of positive cases to 212,997.

Of these, 131 were recorded in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, while 77 were in Lanarkshire.

367 people are currently in hospital with Covid-19, while 31 are in intensive care.

Earlier today, the UK Government announced new walk-through coronavirus testing centre has opened in Dalmarnock.

The centre is located at The Legacy Hub on Springfield Road, G40 3LG. It joins eight drive-through sites, 36 walk-through sites, 42 mobile units, plus the Glasgow Lighthouse Lab which works to process samples.

The UK Government is also funding the Glasgow Lighthouse Lab (operated on its behalf by the University of Glasgow) which is part of a network of Lighthouse Labs across the UK mass processing Covid-19 tests.

Health Minister Lord Bethell said: “To respond to the coronavirus, we have built a major testing and tracing system from scratch. We are constantly working to expand and improve it with new technologies and innovations so everyone with symptoms can get a test.
