Over 500 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Edinburgh during the latest 24-hour period as Scotland grapples with yet another rise in the number of positive tests.
Data from Public Health Scotland (PHS) revealed a further 3,799 confirmed cases of covid-19 had been reported across the country in the period up to Wednesday, July 7.
Over a fifth of those originated in the NHS Lothian health board area, with the Capital contributing 504 of the 866 new positive results.
It means Edinburgh remains the covid Capital of Scotland, ahead of Glasgow on 478 new cases in the reporting timeframe.
All of the Lothians reported more than 100 cases, with West Lothian leading the way on 135 and Mid and East Lothian following closely behind on 112 and 109 respectively.
Five people have died across the country as a result of surging rates amid the rapid spread of the delta variant and easing of restrictions.
It comes as the Scottish Government faces questions over whether it will adopt the model proposed in England which will see all covid-based restrictions lifted from July 19.
Masks will no longer need to be worn and one-metre distancing will be eliminated under plans put forward by Boris Johnson, who said people must "learn to live" with the virus.
The vaccine rollout has continued to gather pace, with 3,890,176 people having received the first dose of vaccination and 2,808,902 getting their second.
