Covid Scotland: Edinburgh neighbourhoods with highest confirmed virus rates above 1,000

Edinburgh's coronavirus cases have been surging significantly over the past few weeks, as schools and some universities returned back for the new teaching year.

According to the latest figures by Public Health Scotland, about one in 20 school pupils tested positive for Covid-19 after coming into contact with another child with the virus.

Public Health Scotland found that 25,507 school pupils received a positive test for the virus in 2020-21.

In Scotland overall, there has been a total of 40,071 positive cases in the last week, with a seven day positivity case rate of 733.1.

The City of Edinburgh reported a total 3,774 cases in the last week, with the seven-day positivity rate just below the rest of the country's average at 715.93

The nine neighbourhoods sitting at above 1,000 for infection rates in Edinburgh are as follows: Fairmilehead (1497.5), Muirhouse (1431.7), Broughton South (1,129,1), Tollcross (1,121.8.3), Leith (Albert Street) (1,085.7), Craigmillar (1,075.9), Marchmont West (1,059.5), Broomhouse and Bankhead (1045.5) and Costorphine North (1,013.5).

The other neighbourhoods with seven-day positivity rate above 400+ are:

There are only five neighbourhoods under the 400+ threshold in the whole of the capital, which are: Canonmills and Newtown North (399.5), Queensferry West (380.8), Costorphine (368.9), Craigentinny (314.2) and Oxgangs (300.9).

Today, 15,441 new vaccinations were reported, which is an increase from yesterdays figure of 15,130. This was made up of 2,721 first doses, and 12,720 second doses.

In total, 75.1% of the entire Scottish population has had their first dose, and 67.3% have had both doses.

In the past 7 days alone, 2.1% of Scotland has received a dose.
