Covid Scotland: Edinburgh Japanese restaurant closes after staff member tests positive

An Edinburgh eatery specialising in Japanese cuisine has closed their doors after a staff member contracted Covid-19.

Harajuku Kitchen say they are closing their Gillespie Pl venue today (August 3) until Tuesday (August 10) to allow the restaurant to have a deep clean. The site at St James Quarter will be open as usual from tomorrow.

The team is currently in the process of contacting customers to re-arrange their bookings.

In a statement, Harajuku Kitchen said: “Unfortunately we are closing from today as a member of our team has tested positive for Covid.

“We are carrying out all necessary procedures, including a deep clean of the restaurant and plan to re-open the restaurant on Tuesday (10th of August)."

They added: "We’re in the process of contacting all upcoming reservations to re-arrange their bookings. We do apologise for any inconvenience caused.

”Fortunately, we are able to offer takeaway while the restaurant is closed as Kaori and another team member who have not been at the restaurant recently will be able to fulfill takeaway orders.

“We will operate evening takeaway and delivery Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5 pm.

“Additionally, our site at St James Quarter will be open as usual from tomorrow.

"As always, we thank you for your continued support and look forward to welcoming you back soon.”
