Covid Scotland: Edinburgh football fans urged to stop at vaccine walk-in before match

Edinburgh football fans have been urged to get vaccinated before attending some of the first matches the city has seen in over a year.

As coronavirus restrictions continue to ease, both the Hearts and Hibs stadiums will see fans return to watch their teams play for the first time since lockdown.

However, as cases in the capital remain at a very high level, NHS Lothian has urged fans to get vaccinated before heading to the stadium.

In a push on social media, the health board asked locals heading to Tynecastle to pop into their drop-in vaccination clinic on Wheatfield Street to get their first or second dose.

Hibs fans were also encouraged to do the same before making their way to Easter Road.

In a post, they said: "As well as picking up a pie before the game, why not drop in to our pop-up clinic to receive your lifesaving vaccination."

It comes as only 50 per cent of those over the age of 40 in Edinburgh have been given their second dose, and only 88 per cent having had their first.

The number of young people with either dose is also very low in the capital, as just 58 per cent of 18-29 year olds have had their first vaccination.

With the hopes of speeding up vaccinations against the rising case numbers, the majority of vaccination clinics have now become drop-in sites to allow as many people as possible to get their doses quicker.
