Covid Scotland: Edinburgh figures show areas with highest and lowest cases of the virus

The latest local coronavirus figures have been released, showing the best and worst affected areas over the last seven days.

Today (Tuesday), Scotland reported 2,529 cases in just 24 hours, as the country enters a second full lockdown.

As the new strain of Covid-19 continues to spread, evidence has shown the variant is around 70 per cent more transmissible than the original virus.

Over the last week, the City of Edinburgh has reported 1,255 cases, with some areas showing much higher infection rates than others.

As the seven day infection rate sits at 10.8 per cent, Dalmeny, Kirkliston and Newbridge recorded the worst figures, recording 39 cases in just a week.

Following closely behind was Leith (Albert Street), where 21 cases were found, as well as Craigmillar, which reported 22.

Other areas such as Inverleith, Longstone and Saughton, and Niddrie also had high rates of infection.

On the opposite end of the scale, Balgreen and Roseburn reported only 0-2 cases in the last week, one of the best rates in the city.

Mountcastle, Comely Bank and Liberton East also showed positive rates with only 0-2 cases recorded in each area.

The Meadows and Southside also reported to have a very low number of cases, showing just four over the last seven days.
