Covid Scotland: Edinburgh cat cafe Maison de Moggy closes due to 'close contact'

An Edinburgh cafe has closed its doors as a precaution today (September 3) after being 'pinged' by Test and Protect.

The Maison de Moggy cat cafe near Edinburgh's Grassmarket apologised to customers for the inconvenience and assured people that their booking will be rescheduled or refunded.

In a statement posted on social media they said: 'We are closing as a precaution today due to Covid pinging. Sorry for any inconvenience.

"Any bookings for today will be rescheduled or refunded. We will update you soon."

The news comes as we reported how Edinburgh's coronavirus cases have been surging significantly over the past few weeks, as schools and some universities returned back for the new teaching year.

According to the latest figures by Public Health Scotland, about one in 20 school pupils tested positive for Covid-19 after coming into contact with another child with the virus.

Public Health Scotland found that 25,507 school pupils received a positive test for the virus in 2020-21.

Dalry Primary School informed parents this week that a person linked to the school had tested positive for the virus, and that close contacts were being identified.

6,400 new cases of Covid-19 were also identified in Scotland on Thursday, a figure which is still one of the highest the country has seen throughout the pandemic.
