Covid Scotland: Drop in new cases but numbers remain high as 1,747 test positive in 24 hours

The number of covid cases in Scotland confirmed in the past 24 hours has seen a drop from previous days.

While the figure remains high at 1,747, is significantly lower than the number recorded on Wednesday and Thursday, which saw 2649 and 2,999 cases recorded.

6.9% of all test carried out yesterday were positive, with 483 of the confirmed cases registered in Greater Glasgow and Clyde while 185 were in Lanarkshire.

Two new deaths of people with a confirmed case of Covid-19 were also registered, bringing Scotland's death toll under this measurement to 7,708.

16 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed coronavirus, while 188 people were in hospital.

3,709,801 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 2,647,397 have received their second dose

Newly released data has also shown that 7,738 confirmed and probable cases of the Covid-19 Delta variant have been identified in Scotland.

Across the UK, a total of 111,157 cases have been confirmed by Public Health England - up 46% on the previous week.

The most recent data shows that approximately 95% of confirmed cases of coronavirus across the UK are the Delta variant.
