Covid Scotland: Cases soar back up as 2,836 confirmed in past 24 hours

The number of covid cases in Scotland has soared back up to 2,836 in the past 24 hours, following a drop in yesterday's numbers.

8.9% of all test carried out yesterday were positive, with 662 of the confirmed cases registered in Greater Glasgow and Clyde while 303 were in Lanarkshire.

Three new deaths of people with a confirmed case of Covid-19 were also registered, bringing Scotland's death toll under this measurement to 7,711.

18 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed coronavirus - an increase of two from yesterday's figure. Meanwhile, 197 people were in hospital - up nine from yesterday.

It comes following a significant drop in new cases yesterday, with 1,747 positive tests confirmed. Thursday saw the highest number of cases confirmed in Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic at 2,999.

3,730,101 people have received their first dose of the Covid vaccine while 2,666,827 have received their second jab.
