Covid Scotland: Almost 4,000 new cases reported overnight as further deaths confirmed

Scotland has reported a further 3,867 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, according to the latest figures.

The data, published by Public Health Scotland, has shown that out of 43,735 tests carried out, nearly 4,000 were positive, giving a positivity rate of 9.6 per cent.

As the country begins to welcome delegates from all over the world ahead of the COP26 summit in Glasgow, Public Health Scotland advised that the new numbers are not quite as they appear.

According to the Scottish Government, a "data flow issue" at the Glasgow Lighthouse Laboratory had caused a delay in some test results, affecting the latest data.

A statement said: "The situation has been resolved but the backlog of results has impacted on newly reported cases and tests over the last couple of days and today."

571 of the cases were in the NHS Lothian health board area, as well as 586 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and 495 in the NHS Grampian area.

It comes as 926 people were confirmed to be in hospital for coronavirus, with a further 20 people currently in intensive care units around the country.
