Covid Scotland: 92 deaths reported overnight as hospital figures hit new peak

A total of 1,656 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours.

Nicola Sturgeon reported the latest figures at First Minister's Questions in the Scottish Parliament this afternoon, after extending lockdown restrictions yesterday.

Owing to coronavirus cases remaining high, the 'stay at home' law will remain in place for three additional weeks before being reviewed again on February 2.

The new cases reported today represent a total of 7.5 per cent of those tested for the virus on Tuesday.

This takes the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 166,583.

A breakdown of today's cases by local health board area will be published at 2pm.

Hospital figures have again showed another rise, with 2,003 people currently being treated for Covid-19.

This is a rise of 14 since yesterday, and is the highest hospital figure since the beginning of the pandemic.

156 people are in intensive care, a rise of six since Tuesday.

Sadly, the First Minister also reported 92 further deaths have been registered in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths to 5,468.
