Nicola Sturgeon has announced the latest daily coronavirus statistics as hospital numbers continue to fall.

Speaking in Parliament, the First Minister said 803 new Covid cases had been recorded in Scotland. This accounts for 4.8 per cent of all the tests carried out.

The total number of cases now stands at 188,345.

There are also currently 1,542 in hospital with the virus, which is 76 fewer than yesterday, and 113 of those people are in intensive care. "That is now just 22 above the peak of last spring", Nicola Sturgeon revealed.

A further 50 deaths were registered from Covid in Scotland over the last 24 hours.

Moving onto the progress of the vaccine rollout in Scotland, First Minister revealed that 985,569 people had received a first dose of the vaccine as of this morning.

She said "this is an increase of 57,447 since yesterday", adding that reflects "the second-highest daily total so far", the FM commended those running the programme for "making that happen" despite severe weather conditions.
