Covid Scotland: 752 new cases overnight as 'grounds for optimism' appear

Scotland has reported a further 752 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

Nicola Sturgeon announced the latest figures at Monday's daily briefing, where she stated that the new cases represent 8.6 per cent of those newly tested for the virus on Sunday.

This number is significantly lower than in previous days with around 1,300 cases being reported daily this time last week.

Out of Monday's new cases, 224 were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and a further 138 in Lanarkshire.

87 were also reported in Ayrshire, with the remaining cases split around the other 10 mainland health boards, including NHS Lothian.

Today the First Minister said there was some "grounds for optimism" as hospital figures appear to stabilise.

Today, 2,016 people are in hospital with Covid-19, a rise of six since Sunday.

Intensive care numbers have reduced slightly, with 151 people now in wards around the country, a decrease of six since yesterday.

Sadly, a further four deaths were reported, however Nicola Sturgeon reminded those listening that most registry offices are closed at the weekend.
