Covid Scotland: 397 new cases confirmed after Scotland takes 'first big step' out of lockdown

A further 397 people have tested positive for coronavirus since yesterday, representing 2.1% of those tested.

No new deaths have been recorded, with the country's death toll currently at 7,614 ahead of further lockdown easing on Monday.

As of Saturday morning, 2,535,889 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 434,941 have received their second dose

The vaccination programme is currently on track to offer the first dose to everyone over the age of 50, anyone with underlying health conditions and unpaid carers by mid-April.

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed on Tuesday that planned lockdown easing can go ahead as planned as of April 5.

As well as a move from 'stay home' to 'stay local', further changes will come into force on Monday including the reopening of non-essential shops, hairdressers and garden centres.

Speaking on Friday, the First Minister said: "First big step out of lockdown with the lifting of the Stay at Home rule today and first phase of retail re-opening on Monday. Please stay cautious though - Covid is still with us.

"And until 26 April, please stay local - within your own council area (except for essential reasons)."
