Covid Scotland: 12 deaths registered in past 24 hours as cases rise by 555

12 deaths of people with a confirmed case of Covid-19 have been registered in the past 24 hours, bringing Scotland's death toll to 7,421.

Today's statistics released by the Scottish Government also confirm that 555 people tested positive for the virus overnight - making up 3% of all tests - and bringing the total number of positive tests to 205,108.

Of these, 166 were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and 91 in Lanarkshire.

639 people are currently in hospital with coronavirus, while 63 are in intensive care.

The vaccination programme has seen 1,743,869 people receive their first dose of the vaccine. Meanwhile, 114,081 people have received their second dose.

Yesterday, it was confirmed the number of neighbourhoods in Glasgow that have suppressed covid has doubled in just two weeks.

A total of 48 areas recorded three cases or less between February 23 and March 1, which is classed as having "suppressed" the virus.

The figure is double that recorded on February 11 and more than three times the number of areas with the virus under control by February 8. The data suggests that strict lockdown measures could be having an impact on case numbers.
