Covid Scotland: 1,303 new cases recorded with over one thousand now in hospital for first time

Over one thousand people are now recieving treatment for coronavirus in Scotland's hospitals as the government confirm 1,303 new cases.

One new death was also recorded, but as usual for the weekend it was noted that registry offices are closed. It takes the total number who have died in Scotland to 2,700.

The Scottish Government confirmed that 86 people are now unwell in intensive care, up two on Saturday. 1,016 people receiving treatment in Scottish hospitals, an increase of 31.

1,303 new cases brings the total number of recorded infections in Scotland to 56,752 since the start of the pandemic in March.

In the previous seven days NHS Lothian has seen 937 new cases recorded.

The latest data shows areas in Edinburgh with the highest number of cases is Bingham, Magdalene and The Christians, followed by Bonaly and the Pentlands.

Of the 18,026 new tests for Covid that reported results, 7.9 per cent recorded a positive result. 19.0 per cent of newly tested individuals tested positive.

On Saturday Scotland recorded its youngest ever death from the virus after a man aged 24 or under died on October 17.

Nicola Sturgeon laid out plans for a new tiered lockdown alert system on Friday.

The five tier system will begin on November 2, with each area in Scotland to be given their own alert level rating.
