Covid Scotland: 1,003 coronavirus cases confirmed as six more lose their lives

1,003 new Covid cases have been confirmed in Scotland over the past 24 hours, according to the latest Scottish Government data.

Sadly there has also been six more deaths reported overnight, with 143 people now being treated with coronavirus in intensive care units - up one person from yesterday.

1,941 people in Scotland are also currently in hospital with recently confirmed COVID-19.

In total, 566,269 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 7,794 have received their second dose.

Of the 14,163 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results, 8.1% of these were positive.

The news comes as Edinburgh Live reported how Edinburgh has one of the lowest Covid rates in Scotland, ahead of Nicola Sturgeon 's next lockdown review.

The city has a positivity rate of just 83.6 per 100,000 people, making it the 8th lowest in Scotland. East Lothian was fifth lowest at 74.7.

These low levels of infection would previously have indicated the areas would have moved to tier two.

By comparison, areas including North Lanarkshire, Glasgow City, South Lanarkshire, North Ayrshire and East Ayrshire all have more than double the case rate of Edinburgh.

On Tuesday, Nicola Sturgeon will announce her review of lockdown rules in Scotland
