Covid rules broken as New Year's Eve party hosted at Paul Scholes' house

A New Year's Eve party which ignored lockdown rules has been hosted at Paul Scholes' house.

Pictures have surfaced of his two children, Arron and Alicia, having a fancy dress gathering at the £3.5m mansion in Oldham.

The Lancashire town is currently under Tier 4 restrictions meaning mixing households is prohibited.

Despite that though more than 20 youngsters are believed to have attended.

There is no evidence to suggest Paul Scholes knew anything about the party however.

Alicia posted a picture of herself and nine friends on New Year's Eve, none of whom were socially distanced.

Aaron meanwhile did the same with one of the attendees dressing up as Jimmy Savile.

Scholes' son was last year convicted of assault.

4.5m people in the north west are currently under Tier 4 restrictions and can only mix with their own household or bubble.

Boris Johnson announced that several areas were being put under harsher restrictions on December 30.

The number of positive cases continue to rise however and the Prime Minister has stated that tougher restrictions could be on the horizon.

He told Andrew Marr: “We are entirely reconciled to doing what it takes to get the virus down and that may involve tougher measures in the weeks ahead.”

Johnson said that ministers had to be "realistic" about the spread of the new variant of the virus.

The Prime Minister though again underlined his reluctance to close schools but insists it remains a possibility.

Saturday saw a further 57,725 confirmed cases which takes the number up to 2.5m throughout the pandemic.

75,000 people have currently lost their lives.
