COVID rule breaker failed to isolate and threatened to spit at people

A Hamilton woman who tested positive for COVID ignored instructions to stay at home and threatened to spit when she came into contact with people outside.

Svetlana Healy has now admitted acting culpably and recklessly "with utter disregard for the consequences" and putting others in danger.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard this week that she was seen at the Blue Triangle homeless unit in Portwell, Cadzow Green and elsewhere in the town on January 24.

Healy, 36, of Hamilton Place, was on bail at the time and should have been self-isolating after testing positive for COVID.

An allegation that she acted in a threatening and abusive manner at the Blue Triangle unit was dropped, but she admitted hurling threats and racist abuse at police officers.

She also admitted kicking a police officer and spitting on two civilian workers at Motherwell police station on July 1 last year.

Healy further admitted threatening or abusive behaviour in Burnside Crescent, Blantyre, in a police vehicle and at the police station on that occasion.

She has no previous convictions and Sheriff Andrew McIntyre continued the case until next month for a criminal justice social work report and an electronic tagging assessment.

He told Healy: "Since you have no record whatsoever and because these are serious matters, I need to find out more about your circumstances before I pass sentence."

Healy was allowed to remain on bail.
