Covid restrictions Ireland: Full confirmed timeline for country's exit from lockdown

Virtually all Covid-19 restrictions will end on "freedom day" October 22, the Taoiseach has announced.

The Cabinet agreed to the "Reframing the Challenge, Continuing Our Recovery and Reconnecting" plan at crunch meeting on Tuesday.

The Taoiseach made an address of the nation speech after the meeting to outline the Government's plans.

However, the new roadmap to freedom is subject to the stability of the virus and 90% of all adults being vaccinated.

Masks will still be required on in health services, retail sectors and on public transport.

September 1

  • Public transport can operate at full capacity which will mean passengers sitting beside each other again. Face coverings will remain mandatory.

September 6

  • Indoor events can operate at 60% capacity once everyone present is vaccinated. while outdoor events can proceed with 75% capacity under the same rules.
  • Larger crowds will also be allowed attend religious ceremonies with up to 50% capacity permissible in places of worship.
  • Weddings will be allowed to have live music as well as bars.

September 20

  • The phased return to the workplace will begin.
  • Indoor after school activities are set to resume.
  • Indoor sports classes such as yoga can return as well as men's sheds, dance classes and band practices.

October 22

  • The legal requirement to prove immunity - vaccine certificates - in order to access indoor hospitality, or other events will end

  • All remaining restrictions on indoor and outdoor events and activities will cease.

  • All remaining restrictions on religious or civil ceremonies will end.

  • The legal requirements for mask wearing outdoors and in indoor private settings will conclude.
