Covid-related driver shortage causing severe Metrolink delays on the Rochdale line

Metrolink services are being hit by severe delays on the Rochdale line due to staff shortages.

A number of drivers are having to isolate because of Covid-related reasons, causing issues on the Rochdale via Oldham line.

Tickets and passes are being accepted on a range of bus services instead.

A statement on the Transport for Greater Manchester website said: “Due to an operational incident we are currently experiencing severe delays on the Rochdale via Oldham line.

“Services travelling in both directions between Victoria and Rochdale Town Centre are affected.

“This is because of staff absence related to Covid-19. Please be assured all available staff are working to minimise any disruption to your journey.

“Tickets and passes are being accepted on the 59, 83, 181, 182, 184 and 409 bus service.

“When travelling on public transport you must wear a face covering unless you are exempt.

“Remember to keep your distance from others, clean your hands frequently and use contactless payment.

“Metrolink apologises for any inconvenience this may cause.”
