Covid reinfections currently not included in daily figures

People re-infected with coronavirus are currently not included in the daily figures, the UK Health Security Agency confirmed.

This means that anyone who has previously had variants such as the Alpha or Delta strains and been re-infected with the Omicron strain are not being counted towards daily figures.

As a result of this, coronavirus cases are thought to be higher than currently reported.

Although data is produced as part of weekly surveillance reports to monitor reinfections, it is not included in the daily Covid-19 dashboard updates.

This is set to change by the end of the month when data is it will be integrated into the daily coronavirus figures.

A spokesperson for the UK Health Security Agency said: "I can confirm that the dashboard team are currently working on adding reinfection data into the dashboard daily reporting, and this should be available by the end of the month.

"At present, we are unable to provide an estimate as to how many extra cases being reported this might result in."

In the latest coronavirus update, the UK recorded a further 179,756 cases in the last 24 hours, the second day of declining case figures.

Of those 179,757 cases, 152,306 came from within England.

More locally there was a decline in daily cases in every area of the Bristol region.
