HYDERABAD: Patients recovering from the Covid-19 virus have slowly started to increase in Telangana, outnumbering the daily active caseload, with experts saying this could spell a downward trend for the third wave.
The number of novel coronavirus cases started increasing around December last week and had been on the rise ever since. The recovery rate measures the proportion of people who are recovering from Covid-19 out of the total number of active cases.
Doctors believe it is an indicator that shows how quickly the disease is ebbing.
Analysis of figures shared by the Telangana health department shows that the recovery rate, which stood around 98.90% on January 1, dropped to 94.11% on January 28. However, last three days saw an increase in the recovery rate to 94.82%. This was the first time in more than a month that the recovery rate has gone up.
“Most people are recovering within three to five days after getting infected. Looking at a rise in the recovery rate, it is safe to say that the peak of third wave might be on the downward journey. Even the number of cases being reported are on the decline now,” said Dr J Venkati, district medical officer of Hyderabad, which has almost 75% of the total caseload.
The number of recoveries per day doubled in the last two weeks from 2,295 on January 17 to 4,391 on February 1, outnumbering the daily caseload. The number of active cases also dropped from 40,447 to 35,625. Experts predict that by March, the caseload might drop drastically, pulling back the recovery rate to 98%.
