A total of 548,039 booster and third jabs were delivered in England on Tuesday - the highest daily number on record.
The figure exceeds the previous record of 483,361 doses on December 11.
Dr Emily Lawson, director of the NHS Covid-19 vaccination programme, said: “NHS staff are once again pulling out all the stops to accelerate the NHS Covid-19 vaccination programme, the biggest and most successful in health service history, and these figures show just how hard we are all working to get lifesaving jabs in arms.”
It comes as thousands of Londoners queued on Wednesday to receive booster shots at walk-in vaccinations centres across the capital.
The Prime Minister announced on Sunday that every eligible adult in England will be offered a top-up injection by the end of December, a month earlier than previously planned.
Meanwhile NHS England chief executive Amanda Pritchard has told MPs the health service is increasing the delivery of booster jabs while “preparing for a potential significant wave of hospitalisation”.
“At the moment the indications are it could be as big or even bigger than the previous wave this time last year,” she told the Public Accounts Committee.
