Covid prohibition notices served on two more NI licenced premises

More licenced premises have been served with Covid-19 prohibition notices, police say.

The PSNI has released few details of the actions.

In a statement, a spokesman said: “Two licensed premises - one in Coleraine and one in Portrush - were served with prohibition notices for breaches of the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2020 yesterday (Friday 28th August).”

Police sources have said that the “serving of a prohibition notice does not necessarily mean that a premises has to close”.

Pubs umbrella group Hospitality Ulster has called for bars to stick to the rules. However, the group’s Colin Neill says adhering to coronavirus restrictions was not easy for pubs, with guidelines being “182 pages long”.

He said: “We’ll help pubs in any way we can, obviously, but it’s vital that they adhere to the rules.”

It was reported on Friday that nine licenced premises had been served with the notices.
