Covid postcode checker Scotland: new service will allow Scots to check restrictions in their area

Nicola Sturgeon announced plans for a new Covid postcode checker during her speech to the Scottish Parliament today (27 October).

The First Minister outlined further details of the new five tier Covid lockdown system, which will see different levels of restrictions applied to different areas based on a number of factors - such as whether there is community transmission in those areas, whether the local health service is under strain and whether cases are rising.

Nicola Sturgeon also stated that the new level alerts hope to "avoid a one size fits all approach" as the country continues to fight the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

She says that the current thinking is to place the central belt in level 3 along with Dundee, Lanarkshire in the most extreme level - level 4 - and the rest of Scotland in level 2 apart from Orkney, Shetland, the Western Isles, the Highlands and Moray which will likely be placed in level 1.

When asked if this will cause confusion, Nicola Sturgeon said:

"We will be announcing a new postcode checker, to allow people to know what restrictions are in place in their area at any given time.

"The detail within each level is intended to give people greater certainty on what to expect at different rates of transmission.

"But it is important that we retain some flexibility – we will keep the detail of each level under review as the situation develops.”

As yet there is no further information about the postcode checking service, but we will update this article with a link when it's available.
