'Covid positive' man found alongside seven others in one bedroom flat drugs raid

A police team targeting street dealing found eight people in a one-bedroom flat including a man who announced he was positive for Covid-19.

Officers were on patrol in The Woodlands, Birkenhead, yesterday evening when a man was spotting running into a property in the estate.

A post on the Wirral Police Facebook page described how when officers attended the property they found eight people inside, including a man who "identified himself" as covid positive.

The Force said: "This gathering was a clear breach of the current covid guidelines around household mixing which the vast majority of the public are abiding by.

"As a result all persons present at the address were issued with Covid fines and the gathering was dispersed.

"This gathering, irrespective of one of the persons being covid positive is in itself not just a breach of legislation, but is wholly irresponsible and accounts for why the spread of Covid-19 in the area is as severe as it is.

"Prior to leaving the address, the officers made a search of the rear grounds of the flat and around 150 bags of crack cocaine and heroin were located having been thrown from the building.

"This package will now be analysed for fingerprints and DNA which will link it to the owner and a drug supply investigation underway."

The force said its local team had already been working with Wirral Council's anti-social behaviour team to obtain a closure notice against the flat, due to ASB and crime issues there.

A spokesman said: "Tonight's events will assist them with this without doubt. #TeamBeb are relentless in targeting ASB and organised crime in this area.

"Drug dealing in this area is bringing misery to the local community and we are determined to take action against those involved."
