COVID-positive case cancels Capitals' home game

The Capitals' home fixture on Sunday has been cancelled due to a positive COVID case.

Canberra Capitals' long-awaited WNBL home return this Sunday has been cancelled after someone at the club tested positive to COVID-19.

The unnamed person attended a full club training session on Tuesday. Under ACT government guidelines, everyone in attendance must isolate for seven days as a close contact.

It's the first time a high-profile Canberra sporting club has had a COVID-positive case.

The Capitals' round two match against the Sydney Flames at the National Convention Centre was to be their first match on Canberra soil for 649 days.

Capitals general manager Lucille Bailie said the health and wellbeing of the team and community was the club's priority.

"We knew there was always a risk of COVID disruptions, so with the help of ACT government and the WNBL, we will adapt as required. The important thing now is ensuring that our team is fully supported as they undergo this isolation period," she said.

"We would like to thank all of our fans who joined us in generating such a buzz for the first home game by purchasing memberships and tickets and sharing your excitement. We appreciate your support and we look forward to seeing you at the NCCC soon."

The WNBL hopes to reschedule the match later in the season. Ticketholders for Sunday will be contacted soon.
