Covid passports for pubs planned for autumn fourth wave in England

The UK Government could issue new rules this autumn requiring people in England to have a Covid passport to get access to pubs, restaurants and nightclubs.

According to The Times, The Government is planning the move for a fourth wave in the autumn - both to protect the public and to encourage younger people to get jabbed.

Venues would be required to ask people for proof of vaccination before allowing access or service.

Those who have not been vaccinated would have to prove they had had a negative Covid test within the last 24 hours.

The information would all be available through the NHS App.

The number of people getting vaccinated has dropped below 100,000 a day for the first time since April.

According to The Times, Government sources have ruled out Covid passports for this month because younger people have not had time to get both doses - but they will bring in a passport scheme later in the year.

Vaccination passports could be brought in in September, when all adults will have had the opportunity to get both jabs.

“In autumn vaccine passports could become an important tool that will allow us to keep things open,” a Downing Street source told The Times.
