Covid pandemic has made Brits hunger for romance - but three million have lost love

One in three Brits is looking for love this Valentine’s Day – and says lockdown has made them crave a romantic relationship.

But most of the 12 million people hoping to find that special someone believe the social restrictions of the pandemic will be a passion killer.

And being cooped up with a partner amid lockdown has made more than three million fall out of love.

But of couples who weathered the storm, more than half reckon their relationship is now stronger.

And two million singletons have reconnected with a former flame during lockdown – with Londoners most likely to hook up with an ex at 18%, compared with a 7% national average.

Rutger Bruining, boss of personal biographers StoryTerrace, which did the study, said: “As it often is with love, it hasn’t been all roses for the nation.

"For those who are single, this year will affect their ability to fall in love.”

Meanwhile, over-65s were less concerned about romance with 81% looking forward to cuddling a relative when lockdown ends rather than a potential partner.
