Covid outbreak confirmed at West Lothian school

A parent of a child with additional support needs has hit out after a Covid-19 outbreak at Pinewood School in Blackburn.

West Lothian Council confirmed there had been “a number of cases” detected at the ASN school.

The Courier understands the cases are among both pupils and staff.

A council spokesperson said: “There have been a number of confirmed cases within the school community and those individuals are self-isolating.

“All parents have been informed and the school remains open. We are working with Health Protection Scotland and all appropriate measures are in place.”

One concerned parent said he believes the school should be shut to contain the spread of the disease.

He said: “This is not right at all.

“I spoke to one of the teachers and they said the head teacher had followed protocol and had been in touch with the Scottish Government and was told to stay open.

“That’s all fine and well for them sitting safe in their offices but what about the teachers and kids.

“This has all been kept very low key.”
