Ayr's biggest primary school is to close for almost two weeks following an outbreak of Covid.
Heathfield Primary will shut from 3.05pm this afternoon to all staff and pupils.
The school will not reopen until Monday, March 22.
Parents have today been informed via text message that the school is closing down on safety grounds.
It comes with up to three classes already isolating following their return to the school last month.
A text to parents today reads: "Following consultation with the local NHS Public Health Team Heathfield Primary will close at 3.05pm today until Monday, March 22, 2021 to all staff and pupils.
"Further information will be communicated to parents and staff in due course."
Lynne McNiven, NHS Ayrshire & Arran's Director of Public Health, said: "NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Test & Protect team is currently conducting a contact tracing exercise with links to Heathfield Primary in the South Ayrshire Council area.
"We have immediately undertaken a careful risk assessment to identify any children and staff who may have had contact with the confirmed cases.
"These individuals are being contacted by the Test and Protect Team and told to self-isolate at home for 10 days.
"As an additional precautionary measure Healthfield Primary will be closed until 22 March 2021, with remote learning in place.
"We appreciate this is a very worrying time.
"However, we would like to assure people that every measure is being taken to protect children and staff."
