Covid Northern Ireland: Two further deaths and over 890 new cases

There have been two further Covid related deaths in the past 24 hours according to the Department of Health.

The department has also said that there have been 892 new positive cases of the virus recorded.

The Covid death toll from the Department of Health now stands at 2,567.

The roll-out of the vaccine continues across Northern Ireland, with 2,530,463 doses having been administered so far.

Booster jabs are now being offered in care homes and to the clinically vulnerable.

The roll-out will be on phased basis, as the booster vaccine dose is to be offered no earlier than six months after receipt of the second dose.

GPs, Trusts and community pharmacies will all be involved in the booster programme.

In addition, vaccinator teams will be start visiting schools from October onwards, following the decision to offer a single vaccine dose to children aged 12-15.

The push to get first doses to more people will also continue. In the coming days, an expanded network of community pharmacies offering first doses will be announced.

This week the Executive will meet once again to discuss Covid restrictions moving forward on Thursday, October 7.
