Covid NI: Two further deaths and 2,272 positive cases reported

Two further coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Northern Ireland on Thursday.

The death toll from the Department of Health now stands at 2,881.

The fatalities are said to have occurred during the current reporting period.

A further 2,272 positive Covid cases have also been recorded in NI today.

This brings the total number of positive cases to 323,211 since the start of the pandemic, according to the Department of Health.

Over the past seven days, the Department said 12,122 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

According to figures released on Thursday, there are currently 324 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 30 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, a message suggesting a range of Covid linked restrictions are to be introduced in the coming days has been dismissed as “bogus”.

In a tweet on Thursday morning Michelle O’Neill described the widely circulated note as “sinister”.

In her tweet, the Deputy First Minister said: “The message circulating on social media around restrictions is bogus. It is simply not true.

“This is a sinister attempt to cause confusion and spread misinformation at a time when it is important that we all work together to reduce the spread of the virus.”

The message begins ‘A chairde’, or friends in Irish and goes on: “Just a quick update following tonight’s meeting in relation to covid 19 and upcoming restrictions. There has been cross party agreement on the tightening of restrictions in the North." Read more HERE.
